Book Review Wednesday: In a Dark, Dark Wood

After I read "Woman in Cabin 10" a few months back (which I'm just realizing I don't think I did a review on) I knew I was going to have to read more by Ruth Ware. I knew that the first book was going to be 'In A Dark, Dark Wood'.

This book takes place in England (all the best thrillers do) and revolves around the hermit writer Leonora who gets invited to her old friend's Bachelorette party in the English countryside.

Below is the publisher's summary

"What should be a cozy and fun-filled weekend deep in the English countryside takes a sinister turn in Ruth Ware’s suspenseful, compulsive, and darkly twisted psychological thriller.

Sometimes the only thing to fear…is yourself.

When reclusive writer Leonora is invited to the English countryside for a weekend away, she reluctantly agrees to make the trip. But as the first night falls, revelations unfold among friends old and new, an unnerving memory shatters Leonora’s reserve, and a haunting realization creeps in: the party is not alone in the woods."

I wasn't sure what this book was about and wasn't sure how it would turn out but it was really good. The book starts slowly at first, and I have to admit, I didn't really like any of the characters, but it kept me on the edge of my seat.

At first, you're not sure why Leonora and the rest of the group fell out of touch or why she's invited to this party but by the end, everything makes sense even it comes with a fatal outcome.

By the time the climax of the story hits, you don't even realize what's happening. So many secrets come out throughout the course of this weekend you don't know who is telling the truth or what is the truth. It's truly wild.

I wouldn't say this is was my favorite book ever but it was a decent read and worth it if you don't know what book to read next!

xoxo
